High Tibial Osteotomy

A high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is a treatment that has been practiced for long in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knees.

this is a problem that is frequently seen in people who have bowlegs, who start getting pain on the inner side of their knees, at a younger age (35 years) than others who usually get pain due to osteoarthritis at age 55 years and above.

an HTO can alleviate symptoms of pain and avoid the need for a TKR (total knee replacement) for upto 15 years in carefully selected patients. in most people, it has been shown to be effective for at least 8 years.

for more information on the use of HTO in knee osteoarthritis, please view my lecture on Osteoarthritis on youtube - http://youtube.com/mangalparihar
